Total hip replacement (THR) surgery involves the removal of an arthritic or damaged hip joint and a subsequent replacement and reconstruction of the affected structures with metal or plastic parts. Performed as a full or minimally invasive procedure, hip replacement requires extensive physical therapy across a recovery period that ranges from 9 to 12 months.
The new hip replacement physical therapy regimen at OPTM Sports & Physical Therapy involves a full analysis of a patient’s medical history pertaining to the hip replacements, strength, stability, the range of motion, post-surgical swelling, gait, balance, and overall function of the joint. This is followed by a carefully individualized program that focuses on functional progress, pain management, therapeutic education, and exercises for strength, balance, and recovery.
The regimen has been designed by a team of highly qualified and certified physical therapy experts specializing in multiple areas of therapy. The facility offers targeted rehabilitative therapy programs for spinal, foot, and knee conditions as well as general sports injuries.
